The influences of electron cyclotron resonance heating on ion-driven fishbone instability

چکیده
Abstract The effect of electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) on fishbone instability is studied based the generalized energy principle. Off-axis ECRH plays a stabilizing role in instability, while on-axis does not distinctly change growth rate. frequency increases (decreases) for off-axis (on-axis) ECRH. greatest when power deposited near rational surface. More concentrated deposition has better effect. Furthermore, non-resonance trapped energetic electrons main factor behind stabilization case, it weak case. changed mainly by Shafranov shift ions since can precessional drift frequency. also affect rate because onset threshold ion beta related to effects magnetic Reynolds number and slowing-down critical are be neglected. This provides possibility using targeted surface control instability.

We determine the conditions under which the damping of the fast Alfven wave, used in the heating of tokamak plasmas, can be described by the geometrical optics approximations. Also, for these conditions, we derive an analytical formula which explicitly determines the amount of energy which is damped onto the plasma particles by the fast wave. The conditions for the validity of the geometrical o...

Ion heating at the fundamental of the cyclotron resonance (1 M H z s 3 MHz) in a toroidal octupole magnetic field is found to be in good agreement with single particle, cold plasma theory at power levels PabrS 100 kW (E 5 100 Vlm) and ion temperatures kT, S 600 eV. Good penetration of the electric field is observed in the densest available plasmas (n7 x lo'* cmA3) with no evidence of parametric...
